Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) -ISA update- some welcome clarity
|
 |
|
| |
Below is my letter to the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) and their reply.
Dear Sirs,
I recently heard that there will be a one-time registration from October 2009 that will replace the previous CRB check system. I am asking for some clarification on behalf of our member groups. Does this mean that people will be able to take their CRB to anyplace? Portability. Will CRB's have to be renewed periodically? Longevity. Will music services (for example) pay the new fee for people already covered by the current system? Thanks, Micaela Schmitz, Regional Development Officer
Dear Micaela,
It
is worth noting one of the great advantages of this new scheme is its
portability; once an individual is registered for one role, the
registration will carry through and be valid in other settings. Organisations and employers can do a simple check, on-line and for free,
to confirm the individual's registered status. This will lead to a big
reduction in bureaucracy. Employees/employers of the existing CRB
checks will be phases into the ISA Scheme over a five year period.
The ISA Scheme is a lifetime registration and there is no need to renew.
If
your organisation’s employee/employers come in contact with vulnerable
people, then yes they will be covered by the current system.
