now you should have your tickets to the Verdi performance! If not, see
topic one for information on how to get yours. Also there is more
information, and news, and the results of the small training grants.
What this publication is: Monthly news to keep you in the loop… from the West Midlands This
is the June 2008 edition of West Midlands Regional Development
e-bulletin, the monthly email bulletin for all Making Music
members. Its purpose is for me, your Regional Development Officer
to inform you about things that just can't wait until Network (the regional committee newsletter) comes out.

are getting set for a great performance of the Verdi Requiem at
Birmingham Symphony Hall this Sunday, 8 June 2008 at 7:30pm. You buy tickets to come hear it. In person, online, by phone           0121 780 3333 come on the day, as there are plenty tickets remaining. At this website are instructions, so there’s no excuse to miss it.

Congratulations to our grant recipients. They were:
Bromyard and District Choral Society - 'A Choral Workshop’ to improve sightreading/singing with the choir
Keele Concerts- a special 'Meet the Music Makers' workshop/demo/Q & A event prior to concert; for workshop leaders fees
Local and Live- For: first ever website
Operamus- For: ‘Semele Workshop’ offering a 4-day intensive workshop on Handel's Semele with amateur adults, young singers, pre-professional players at the Birmingham conservatoire and professionals
Solihull Symphony Orchestra- ‘Reaching Out; a business sponsorship scheme which will involve every member
West Midlands Festival Chorus- for 'Young Singers Initiative’; places for five young singers at national 3-day intensive workshop in Worcester cathedral
Windmill Singers- for ‘Technology Opportunity’; software for scanning, music notation, and MIDI input for choral rehearsal (parts and entire group) Cd's.

Artist Networking Meetings Continue in Vale of Evesham Jenny
Davis writes: Hi, just to let you know about the next free Vale
of Evesham Network of Artists meeting is on Thursday 19th June from
7.15pm at Number 8 Community Arts Centre, 8 High St, Pershore. This is
a free network for anyone interested in the arts. The schedule is: 7.15pm networking/ 7.30-8.30pm updates, discussion, sharing / 8.30-8.45pm networking. I’m hoping to go. Ring Jenny on           01386 565396 or email.

MU (Musicians Union) offers

free networking events for jazz and general music
|
|
|
‘Network-Musician’ Fri 11 July, 5-8pm at the Wine Republic, Centenary Sq, B'ham hosted
by MU jazz and Bham int'l jazz festival; forum is free to all
musicians, promoters, or anyone involves with music. This event has a
jazz tinge.
Network Musician is a new initiative where six areas will get a meeting per quarter. Again it’s free. Two sites in the West Midlands include Stoke College (2 September and 2 December) and Cox’s yard in Stratford (21 October, 20 January). All meetings are 4-6pm so you can enjoy a drink and still have the evening ahead of you. For more info. Contact by emailing or ring           0121 6223870 .

Vacancies
Music Director for Warwick and Kenilworth Choral Society, starting January 2009. Rehearsals are Monday evenings in Warwick, with 3-4 concerts in the area. Choir has about 100 non-auditioned SATB singers who perform mainly the classical repertoire (Bach, Handel, Mendelssohn and Brahms) but also some modern pieces. Interviews in early January 2008. Conductor sought by the Phoenix Singers of Shrewsbury
(40 members) from September 2009, on retirement of Richard White after
40 years with the choir. Wide-ranging repertoire – sacred and secular;

Government Grants Since
2003, governmentfunding.org.uk has delivered the only common point of
access to government grants for the voluntary and community sector.
With comprehensive coverage of fourteen government departments and
extensive funding advice, governmentfunding.org.uk is a useful

Do You Need To Hire Video Equipment For A Project? The
Media Vault project continues to support the region's existing and
start-up businesses, with subsidised access to its content creation and
distribution facilities based at Millennium Point. These facilities are
also available at very competitive commercial rates.
Subsidised
assistance (up to a value of £2.5K, subject to eligibility) is only
available until the end of June 2008. For further information contact

Trusthouse Charitable Foundation Grants Programme
invites charities and not for profit organisations that are active in
the fields of Health Care and Disability; Community Support and the
Arts and Education to apply for one off funding The funding is
available through the Small Grant Scheme, which provides grants of up
to £10,000 and the Large Grant Scheme that offers grants of between
£10,000 and £30,000. Click here.
Cultural Olympiad Update
Applications
are now open to be part of the Cultural Olympiad in every UK region and

organisation should initially contact the West Midlands Creative
Programmer, Paul Kaynes who can offer feedback on ideas, and explain

I attended a briefing session and the point is: get involved and see
what you can do to celebrate the Olympics- you’ve got 4 years to do it-
so don’t miss the boat! Do think about provided events to go with
digital images found at Live Sites (Birmingham will have one) as these
will be organised through the BBC locally. More on this later.
Hillfields Festival - Grants Available – posted by Clare Huby, Arts Officer, Coventry
The
Hillfields Events Planning Group are pleased to be able to offer grants
to enable performance artists to take part in this year's Hillfields
Festival. Two types of grant are available: Performance
Funding: grants of up to £600 for groups to develop a performance
activity; and Event Funding :grants of up to £750 towards an
event to be held in or around Hillfields Festival Week - 20th to 29th
